Good value for a new investor

As a first-time investor, I was looking for the best value. I went with Questrade to open a TFSA. The 50 dollars free trades offer was definitely a big plus, helping me save a bit on initial commissions. I liked that there's no annual fee for the TFSA account, which makes a difference when you're starting with a smaller amount. The minimum deposit was manageable too. Felt like a good bang for my buck.

So happy with Questwealth!

I finally moved my investments to Questwealth Portfolios and I am so glad I did! The setup was surprisingly easy, and seeing my money managed professionally for such low fees is amazing. I love the peace of mind. It's way better than what I had before. I definitely recommend them!

Good platform, slow setup

I opened a TFSA Account with Questrade a few months ago. The platform itself is quite good for Self-Directed Investing, and the low fees were a major draw. However, the initial account funding process took longer than I expected, which was a bit frustrating. Customer service was helpful when I called, but it still felt like a drawn-out start. Once it was all set up, I was happy with it.

Easy to use for stocks

Just started using Questrade for some Stocks and it's pretty straightforward. I'm not super into all the fancy trading stuff, just wanted to buy and sell some shares. The QuestMobile app works fine for what I need. It didn't feel overwhelming at all.

Detailed setup, solid service

I decided to open an Individual Margin Account to trade Options. The initial application process for Questrade was quite detailed, requiring several documents, and it took about a week for everything to be fully verified and active. I funded the account via bill payment which cleared in 3 business days. The Questrade Edge platform offers a good range of tools for options analysis, and I've found the real-time data to be accurate. I had a question about setting up a stop-loss order, and their online chat support was responsive and clear, guiding me through the steps. The trading fees are competitive, making it a viable option for active traders. Overall, a comprehensive experience that lives up to its reputation.

Consistent and reliable

I've been with Questrade for several years, primarily for my RRSP and TFSA accounts, and recently opened an RESP. Each time, the process has been fairly consistent. This latest RESP account setup was as smooth as previous ones. I appreciate the reliability; I know what to expect. Their trading fees for ETFs are still unbeatable, which is why I keep coming back instead of moving everything to a bank platform.

Is Questrade actually legit? Like, are my investments safe there?

R Richard Flores 1 week ago
Totally legit. They're a member of CIPF, so your stuff is protected up to certain limits, just like with other big banks. Been with them for years.

Yeah, they're big in Canada, been around for a while. Not a fly-by-night operation.

I'm trying to decide between Questrade and Wealthsimple for self-directed investing. Any thoughts on which one is better?

M Michelle Thomas 1 week ago
Depends what you're doing. Questrade is generally better for active traders or if you want more control, lower fees for bigger trades. Wealthsimple is super user-friendly for beginners, especially with ETFs.

I use Questrade for my stock picking stuff and Wealthsimple for my robo-advisor portfolio. Both have their strong points.

So, I'm thinking of moving my RRSP from TD to Questrade. Will they actually cover the transfer fees?

J Jason W. 2 weeks ago
Yup, they usually do. I think there's a minimum amount you need to transfer for them to cover it, but they'll rebate it back to you.

They covered mine when I moved from RBC, was pretty straightforward. Just had to submit the form.

Does Questrade have an active referral code or some kind of promo for new users right now? Looking to open a TFSA.

N Nancy Moore 4 weeks ago
Always check online, they usually have something like $50 in free trades for new accounts. Just gotta make sure you enter it when you sign up, can't add it later.

I used a friend's referral code a few months ago, got a bit of a bonus. Check the website, they usually have a section for current promotions.

Can I use a promo code if I've already got an account open with Questrade?

S Sandra 4 days ago
Nah, pretty sure you gotta enter those codes when you first apply for the account. Can't add them after the fact.

AFAIK, most of their promos are for new accounts only. Might be able to get a transfer fee rebate though, that's different.
